The Reunion

Sara Matchett is approaching her 50th birthday and thinks it’s time to return home after being away for close to three decades. She realizes that years ago she was a teenage drama queen. When hurt by her best friends and sisters, she lashed out with bridge destroying letters and then ran-away to marry an older man.

Now, with maturity to bolster her confidence, Sara leaves the shelter of Tennessee to return to her Southern California roots and make amends to the people she hurt.

Then there’s Nate. Sara hid her teen pregnancy from everyone, but Nate. For most of the gestation period, Nate was her support and watched her back. When near term, she wished he were the father, which would have been a good thing. Instead, she was drunk in her best friend’s boyfriend’s car. True to his nature, Gavin took advantage of Sara’s inebriated condition and raped her. When Melina was born, Sara gave her up for adoption and left her hometown.

Jacqueline Diamond relates Sara’s story with all the drama of Peyton Place, a 1960 era soap opera. In Going Home, at Your Age? Book 3 of 3: Sisters, Lovers and Second Chances scandalous secrets are exposed—rape, adultery, and the plethora of everyday problems. Diamond introduces many characters from her other two books in the series, but like all three novels, this can be read without necessarily reading the others.

My biggest issue was recalling each character’s relationship with Sara, but Diamond does an excellent job of reminding her readers through descriptive prose. I found it hard to put down Going Home, at Your Age? It’s a worthy investment for any reader who understands the importance of family.
