Pangaea: Land of the Dinosaurs

Ever read a book narrated by a dimetrodon? (Dimetrodons, a relative of primitive mammals, lived 295-272 million years ago.) If not, The Heart of Pangaea is a must read.

Pangaea Land of the Dinosaurs

Twelve-year-old Robyn has a powerful imagination and is also an expert in paleontology. Her fantasy is so vivid, she creates her own best friend, Ed, the Dimetrodon. Other than Ed, she has no friends and is bullied unmercifully by Hannah. So to escape her troubles, she creates her own land—Pangaea.

Robyn learns the unimaginable—her mother, Carol, is diagnosed with terminal cancer. Perhaps she can find a cure in Pangaea where the ancestor of every living thing today—the Last Universal Common Ancestor (LUCA), resides.

Ed, the Dimetrodon

Ed relates Robyn’s story. Most of the creatures of Pangaea revere their Architect (Robyn), and assist her in her quest for LUCA. Most of Pangaea’s characters are dinosaurs with the intelligence to speak to Ed and Robyn.

Dr. Boggs, a Therizinosaurus, helps the duo in their quest by introducing them to King Richard, a Megalosarus, who lives in Tanis, Pangaea’s capital. The king seems friendly and helpful enough, and provides Robyn and Ed with assistance, and sends them on their way, but, King Richard has his own agenda.

King Richard Pangaea: Land of the Dinosaurs

During Robyn’s quest for a cure for her mother we meet many different types of dinosaurs with enough information about each to whet the appetite of young readers. Author Lindsey Kinsella does an amazing job on the characterization of The Heart of Pangaea. The scene descriptions are cinematographic and the plot has enough twists and turns that readers will excitedly turn pages until the climatic ending.  King Richard, the Megalosarus
