Heaven

Fifteen-year-old Sam dies from stupid. He takes a bat to an enormous window to rescue his girlfriend’s dog. The shattered window “releases a large blade of fury—that slam into Sam’s skull.” His cranium cracks as the glass tears into his brain.

Soon after his death, Sam finds himself in a world without detail—all white. Slowly, the emptiness around him comes to life with lush trees popping into existence and green grass magically appearing. A beautiful garden form around him.

Sam soon discovers a yellow-skinned monster with massive arms and legs sleeping. When its beady eyes open, it reveals pointy fangs dripping thick drool down his chin. And he smells like rotten eggs.

The two humanoids discover they can understand each other’s language, but their brawl only ceases upon the authoritative presence of a giant with a human face, inquisitive eyes, and a kind smile. Daimon will become their teacher.

Other beings from throughout the galaxy reveal themselves and Sam soon learns he is on Monad, the first circuit planet of Havona. All of Daimon’s students have the opportunity to learn the secrets of the universe, and if not, they will be Reset and returned to their home planets to start life anew without memory of their past.

JP Cawood creates a family friendly novel in which the protagonist is forced to mature as he makes sense of his new environment. Sam and the Secrets of the Universe is pure fun adventure ending with a promise of a sequel.
