Beneath the Door

Terin Coiler is a poor little rich kid from London, England. Her brother, Jared has anger issues which are punished by their parents with days in the basement bomb shelter. When not in his home prison, Jared attends an exclusive private high school with his sister where a few girls bully her unmercifully. When Jared comes to her rescue, he does more harm than good causing the hurt teen’s parents to sue.

Author Holly Jane shows the psychological abuse the Coilers inflict on their children, and the strange powers the brother and sister discover that has taken over their bodies. Each one has a unique ability to manipulate energy, and if it goes awry, could be life threatening to those nearby.

Beneath the Door is a coming-of-age YA novel about surviving chaos, no matter what the costs. Jane does an awesome job of advancing an absorbing plot, descriptive scenes, and dynamic characters. The book is fast paced with a tangled web of breathless danger, mystery mixed with the sorrow of loss.

Holly Jane’s Beneath the Door is the first book in the Chrysalis Saga. Many questions are left untold, so I await the second book for some answers. Though the novel is well written, I noticed a few editorial goofs that bring my rating to 4 pops, but the novel is definitely worth the read.
