5 Favorite YA Books for 2014

I reviewed over 40 books in 2014 for Amazon, Goodreads, BooksNPals, and Mid West Book Reviews. My favorite genre includes time travel, science fiction, and YA. I would like to share with you my five favorite YA books for 2014.

Destroyed Through Time is Jessica Tornese’s third installment in the Lost Through Time trilogy. All three books are absorbing reads. They are about Kate Christenson, a teen who can travel back through time. In book three, Kate is in her early 20s. Her time travel experiences have radically changed her life. Tornese builds this novel to a dramatic conclusion knitting Linked Through Time and Lost Through Time expertly into a satisfying conclusion.

Like I said earlier, I love time travel stories, and Bumped Back in Time, by Penny Estelle is one of the best. Part of Estelle’s Wickware Sagas, Bumped Back in Time begins in the mysterious Miss Wickware’s history classroom. In this adventure, Sammy Brown, a winner of the junior sailing regatta, finds himself transported back to 1812 to meet Francis Scott Key, help him sail a boat, and perhaps influence the fledgling poet’s greatest work, “The Star Spangled Banner”.

Spy Kids and James Bond. Warning. This book has got your back. Author Ron Corriveau brings to life Melina Roberts’ teen story of losing her mother to a coma, living with a secret agent father, and dealing with genius brother Travis. The book has action scenes that will keep readers riveted. We see two points of views—Melina’s and Evan Roberts’, her father. Readers will feel they are undercover as Evan infiltrates an enemy nuclear facility. They will also get reacquainted with teenage angst as Melina deals with her hospitalized mother and a brand new boyfriend.

New to Knightsbridge, California, middle grade student Will Grainger meets other seventh graders while researching the history of his new hometown. Mikey is an electronics buff, Susan is a computer wiz, and Evelyn has an amazing aptitude for photography. Joined with Will’s knowledge of the outdoors, these young sleuths are seemingly unbeatable, except for the fact that professional treasure hunters are on their tail willing to prevent their success at all costs in finding a pirate’s remains and his lost booty.

The Last Timekeepers and the Arch of Atlantis

Middle schooler, Amanda Sault, is caught by Principal Greer for motivating a food fight. She and a few other classmates are assigned after school detention for a month with lunchtime aide, Melody Spencer, aka “The Witch of White Pine”. But these White Pine students enjoy their stay with the warmhearted Ms. Spencer. They excavate a 12,000 year-old relic that can transport people back into time to ensure that history goes unchanged, for evil forces are bent on its alteration for their own personal gain.
