The Quest of the Empty Tomb: A Supernatural Mystery
The Hunt for Xanadu recently received a 5 pops review from this blog. Elyse Salpeter’s second book in her Kelsey Porter Series, The Quest of the Empty Tomb, was also an exciting ride, but didn’t exactly live up to the high bar Salpeter’s first book established.
In The Quest of the Empty Tomb, Salpeter brings back many of the vibrant characters found in book #1 of the Kelsey Porter Series, including her insanely jealous brother (what is that all about?) and her boyfriend, Desmond. Expect these two to have a testosterone dump over Kelsey.
Where book 1 is set in Asia, book 2 takes readers to Cairo, Egypt. In Xanadu, Salpeter accomplished an amazing job in researching Hindu and Buddhist mythology. In Empty Tomb she uses Egyptian folklore to create a web to snare Kelsey for good. However, the daughter of a Hindu devil-god is perhaps too slick for these supernatural beings as she deals with relationship issues. As in the first book, Kelsey’s adoptive brother, Ari, a very wealthy entrepreneur, is weirdly fixated on his sister’s love life. Then there’s boyfriend Desmond who seems to be hiding something since their return from Xanadu. Finally, we meet Jay, a young man who may be related to Kelsey in a mysterious way.
The Quest of the Empty Tomb has adventure, suspense, and romance. The plot is fast moving, but the story felt a bit contrived in its effort to exploit Egyptian folklore.
On her bio pager on Amazon.com Elyse Salpeter writes, “…Salpeter is an author who loves mixing ‘the real with the fantastic’ in her books. She likes nothing better than taking different scenarios and creating worlds where things just aren’t what they appear to be.”
Her 5-book Kelsey Porter series, THE HUNT FOR XANADU, THE QUEST OF THE EMPTY TOMB, THE CALL OF MOUNT SUMERU, THE HAUNTING OF CRAGG HILL HOUSE, and THE SEARCH FOR STARLIGHT are about a brilliant and fearless young woman whose life is steeped in Buddhist spiritual mysteries and she is constantly discovering the world around her is not what she believed it to be.
Wow, adventure, suspense, and romance; what could be better!!!
