Supergirl: A Three Book Series
Book 1: Supergirl: Age of Atlantis is book 1 in the Supergirl series by Jo Whittemore. As Kara Danvers, Supergirl’s secret identity, she bumps into ordinary National City residents having amazing powers. One woman can levitate objects with her mind, another can control cats, and a man has the power to command bees to do his bidding.
The main characters are the same ones found on the CW TV series, “Supergirl”—Mon-El, Jimmy Olson, Alex Danvers, the tech genius, Winn, and the Martian J’onn J’onzz, the DEO’s director. With the same setting and characters, the familiarity of the book makes it even more of an enjoyable read.
In this Supergirl adventure, Age of Atlantis, the Department of Extranormal Operations (DEO) has captured a strange humanoid sea creature. Meanwhile, superpowered citizens are running amok over National City. With the help of the DEO, Supergirl must uncover the connection between the merman and how so many ordinary citizens are suddenly super powered.
Author Jo Whittemore uses the “Supergirl” characters from episodes 18-21 of season two masterfully as they pool their resources to solve the mystery behind the spread of super abilities. While doing so, Whittemore continues the difficult relationship between Kara and her boss at Catco, Snapper Carr, Supergirl’s love interest, Mon-El, and Jimmy Olson’s obsession as the heroic Guardian.
Supergirl: Age of Atlantis is the first of a three-book series including Supergirl: Curse of the Ancients, and Supergirl: Master of Illusion. All three books contain original stories not seen on the hit CW TV series, Supergirl, making these books a fun read for anyone from 11-91.
Pop’s Rating:
Book 2: Supergirl: Curse of the Ancients is inspired by the characters of the hit CW series, “Supergirl.” In the first book, Supergirl: Age of Atlantis, a rare Atlantean metal was released into the environment causing regular citizens to exhibit superpowers.
In Curse of the Ancients, Kara/Supergirl and her friends go to the rooftop of the DEO (Department of Extra-Normal Operations) to watch Caeser’s Comet pass over the Earth in the night sky, but this comet has been cursed by a demon and unexpectedly unleashes a spell that transforms Central City into Ancient Rome. Supergirl must find the antidote to the curse before its effects become permanent. While doing so, she is confronted by a citizenry who literally worships her as a Goddess, making Kara very uncomfortable.
Author Jo Whitemore does an excellent job on character development maintaining a clear focus on a descriptive setting. The plot is fast paced, easy to read, with unexpected twists and turns as Supergirl fights a demon with magical powers that she is vulnerable to.
I highly recommend Supergirl: Curse of the Ancients to any fan of the TV series.

Book 3: Supergirl: Master of Illusion is the final book of Jo Whittemore’s Supergirl Series.
Supergirl learned early in her career exposure to kryptonite could be fatal, and she is also affected adversely by magic. Exposure to her weaknesses has forced the girl of steel to use her intelligence to outwit her adversaries.
In Supergirl: Master of Illusion journalist Kara Danvers is covering National City’s Fifth Annual Arts Gala when a seemingly peaceful princess throws fireballs at an innocent bystander. However, Supergirl soon learns Feliz Faust, who has the magical ability to cast believable illusions, is far from innocent. He is an immortal villain who destroyed the princess’s ancestors and has plans on unleashing three demons into the world to cause chaos. Supergirl is powerless against magic, but will her intellect be able to stop Faust’s reign of terror over National City?
All three of Jo Wittermore’s Supergirl books take place in the world inspired by “Supergirl,” the hit CW TV series. Like the two books before this one in the series, the author does a wonderful job describing characters, visualizing the setting, and providing a fast paced and heart-thumping plot.

I remember may family gathering around the radio on Sunday nights in the 1940’s to listen to Superman; but these stories are way over the top when compared to those Superman stories.
