Scientists Warn our World Will Change; ISAN Shows us What it Will Look Like
Searching for a read to get your adrenaline pumping? Look no further than ISAN: International Sensory Assassin Network. ISAN begins with Ava’s mental mission where she and her crew must find their way through a maze of gun fire and computerized soldiers to reach the exit door in time. With the help of Helix B77, a drug that heightens all senses and provides an individual with super human strength and speed, Ava’s biggest challenge is keeping teammates Justine and Brooke from squabbling and destroying their success.
ISAN is written in Ava’s point of view as she takes readers to her past and present. Her mother died of mysterious causes when she was a preteen and she was shipped off to foster care where she was mistreated. She ran away, got in trouble, and ended up in juvie where Russ, an ISAN operative, enlists her to join his secret organization. Ava is training to become an assassin.
Mary Ting writes a fascinating novel that takes place a hundred years into our future where the world is recovering from a devastating meteor shower that caused tidal waves that wiped out most of the world’s coastal cities. The United States is no more and the new government is headed by the Remnant Councils. We get the sense that ISAN is a secretive arm of those councils.
Ting writes a heart thumping novel where anything can happen, and does. The plot twists are surprising, but realistic, and the settings are illustrated adequately. Her strength lies in characterization where the author’s descriptive talents are showcased. Here we get into Ava’s head as she lets readers know how she feels about every major character she meets and her relationship with that person.
ISAN is the first in a 4-book series of International Assassin Network books that include Helix (Book 2), Genes (Book 3), and CODE (Book 4).From the start, ISAN will grab you with its thrilling melodramatic dystopian backdrop and vivid action scenes that are all seasoned with a dash of romance. Highly recommended.
