Fascism or Democracy: The Choice is Yours
The Super Tuesday results are in. Republican candidate Donald Trump won 758 delegates to Nikki Haley’s 46. The former president won fourteen states including California, Texas, and North Carolina. It is quite evident Trump will become the Republican standard bearer in the upcoming 2024 presidential election. If elected, Trump will become the second former president, after Grover Cleveland in 1892, to win a second non-consecutive term.
All elected presidents take an Oath of Office which says, “I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of the President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States.” This constitution the president promises to defend has influenced the constitutions of other nations by recognizing individual rights, the rule of law, and the separation of powers.
During his campaign, Donald Trump has declared what he’d do with his second term in office.
•Terminate the Constitution of the United States of America
• Ask the Supreme Court to grant unchecked power to the president
• With that power he will seek revenge against his political enemies
• He plans to terminate civil service in government and fill those posts with loyalists
•. • He wants to turn the Justice Department from being an independent arbiter of the rule of law to a machine that will enforce his presidential whims.
• He will pull the US out of NATO
• He will change America’s allegiance from Democracy to Fascism as he pony-ups to dictators like Vladimir Putin and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un.
Forget the fact Donald Trump is the first former president in US history to be criminally charged. He faces 91 charges across four separate cases. (That alone should give voters pause in casting a ballot for the ex-president.) The platform he is running on should be enough to make any American think twice before voting for a man that will throw this country into an abyss that will take decades, if ever, to recover.
I’m a historian. I studied the fascist trends of the last century and know for a fact that what Trump promises will be the end of the United States as we know it today. If this is what you want, vote for Donald Trump in November. If that is not what you want, then reject his plan for a second term and vote for the Democrats. They will continue their support of the Constitution, a document that has served this nation well since the Presidential Election of 1789.
