Another Girl Calls My Dad Daddy

cover Portia Maddox has just discovered she has a sister. Her dad had a previous brief marriage that led to the birth of a child he didn’t know about. Now, to the surprise of Portia’s parents, they had a 16-year-old daughter, Jasmine.

Jasmine’s mother, Vivian, is involved in a new relationship. She could use some alone time, especially due to Jasmine’s recent poor behavior. Grades in school have deteriorated, Jasmine has been wearing excessive makeup, and she has been overeating adding pounds to her girth. A father’s influence would be very helpful.

Portia and Dad travel across country to meet Jasmine and take her home with them for summer vacation. What Portia didn’t expect was the jealousy, vindictiveness, and pranks she’d endure from a big sister she was hoping would be her friend.

Thus begins Emma L. Price’s novel, Another Girl Calls My Dad Daddy. It’s a character study of two sisters who have never met learning the true meaning of sisterhood.

Price does a fantastic job showing the reality of bringing strangers together as they try to forge that familial bond. Since Portia also has diabetes, that element of the story is woven in expertly.

I highly recommend this book to any child or adult learning about sisters and that strong bond we call family.
