A Christmas Miracle
It was December in Poplar Creek, Wisconsin, but Gwen Hayward was deeply depressed. Dean, her husband of 32 years, had called her while she was out of town visiting her sister to drop the bomb. “I think it’s best if we get divorced.” In a heartbeat he was off to the Virgin Islands with his former office manager, Shawana.
To break the chain of despair, she took a walk to the town square. In the book store window she noticed a little girl hooking an origami star to the back of the store’s Christmas Wish Tree. It was the store’s tradition of giving out free books to children during the holiday.
When Gwen unhooked the star, she was surprised to read, “I wish for a washer and dryer for my mom for Christmas so she doesn’t have to go to the laundromat.” The star was supposed to contain a book wish, but Gwen decided she would find that little girl and make sure her self-less Christmas wish come true.
Thus begins Karen McQuestion’s novella, Wish Upon a Christmas Star.” To uncover the identity of the child, Gwen meets Lucky Gallagher, the owner of the local laundromat. Lucky knows almost everyone in town, but not familiar with the author of the Christmas wish. However, he offers his help to find the child and grant her thoughtful wish.
Wish Upon a Christmas Star is a wonderful Christmas story about love, hope, and Christmas magic. McQuestion writes a story filled with holiday warmth and hope. It’s a feel-good book that won’t disappoint.
