The Doctor and the Police Chief

Police Chief Ethan Forrest is on a three-member committee searching for a doctor for his hometown, Downhome, Tennessee. The two choices given to the committee are a recovering alcoholic and a woman, Dr. Jenni Vine, accused of having an affair with a patient’s husband. Ethan thinks Jenni is a husband stealer, the last person they want in Downhome. However, Ethan is outvoted by the two women on the committee, who had recently spent the day with Dr. Vince and didn’t buy it. They hired Jenni Vine.

Though Ethan believes Jenni to be a California floosy—spoiled, born with a silver spoon in her mouth, and accustomed to charming her way out of difficulties, we soon learn how wrong he is.

Unsurprisingly, Ethan and Jenni start off on rocky turf.  During her tour of the town’s medical facilities, Jenni feels Ethan’s negative vibes. Karen Lowell, director of the Tulip Tree Nursing Home, likes Jenni right away and explains the police chief’s problem with Jenni. She is coming to Downhome to escape an unpleasant situation; and she’ll probably do it again. Jenni soon chorales the police chief and tells him how wrong he is.
