Yours, Mine and Ours: A Charming Romantic Comedy

Dr. Flint Harris, a successful seismology expert, is trying to update earthquake standards for Beachside, California, but he faces resistance from the business community. When Flint exits City Hall after a meeting, he is greeted by protesters led by dance teacher Robin Lindstrom, who throws tiny sliver stars at him to get his attention.

The first meeting of the two protagonists illustrates perfectly Robin and Flint’s personalities, which are as different as sand and water. When Flint finally drives away in his Volvo, Robin isn’t surprised, for Volvo’s are renowned for placing safety over style. She thinks, “The man is so compulsive he probably has airbags in his bathtub.”

The Harris triplets, Brick, Aaron, and Caitlyn, now 8 years old, are led unofficially by the genius of the three, Caitlyn. It’s been three years since their mother died in a tragic accident, leaving the children in the sole care of their father and nannies. Caitlyn learns that their mother was infertile, and had another woman’s fertilized eggs placed in her womb. Caitlyn discovers the donor and plots with her brothers to have Robin Lindstrom, their biological mother, become their nanny and fall in love with their father.

Jacqueline Diamond writes a fast-moving plot riddled with humor, ghosts, and a straight-laced father who prefers structure and schedules to carefree living. Robin is the complete opposite, but as readers soon see, there is chemistry that neither character is willing to accept nor deny.

You’ve probably guessed the story’s conclusion, just from its title, for in Yours, Mine and Ours, it’s the journey that really matters, and that’s filled with unexpected surprises that keep popping up throughout this marvelous romantic comedy.
