Zombies With Blue Eyes
A Dim Blue is book 2 of author S.M. Syke’s Blue Series. The first book, Eyes of Blue, relates the experiences of teenager Ava Washington during The Fall, when civilization is destroyed by a world-wide epidemic. A meteorite strikes Earth releasing spores that cover the planet and invade our bodies. When a person dies, the spores re-animate the dead into zombies that suck the life out of their targets.
Ava’s brother, Matthew, is attending a college in Florida when The Fall begins. He chooses to drive home to see his family, but the trip he describes in the first person is harrowing. The spores turn dead humans into Deaders, zombie -like creatures who get their nourishment by draining energy from their prey which can be car batteries, generators, animals, and even humans. On his trip north to Delaware, and home, Matt encounters many Deaders as well as human monsters killing for sport.
Unfortunately, Matt tells us about how he got captured by a group of these human devils that leave him for dead only to be rescued by a remnant of the U.S. military committed to saving lives.
A Dim Blue has an exciting plot that kept this reviewer turning pages. I did notice egregious editing issues, but the well described settings, characters, world building, and thrilling plot more than made up for this as I pushed through this thrilling novel.

During the day, S.M. Sykes is an advertising and marketing professional. Even though English classes in high school were a struggle, the author discovered a passion for storytelling. Eyes of Blue is his debut novel which led to the Eyes of Blue Series.
