Ginny is expecting Etta, a mid-wife neighbor, but when the old woman is a no-show Ginny recklessly takes her daughter Sarah in search of Etta for fear she was hurt by the wolf.
P.A. Estelle knows how to pluck heartstrings as she slowly dishes out plot information that could mean the death of characters that readers have grown to love. Jesse’s Nightmare soon becomes the readers’ nightmare when Jesse is forced into a blizzard in search of his wife and child in what he dreads will become his darkest day.
P.A. Estelle took off the gloves when writing book 3 of the Jesse Series—Jesse’s Heartbreak—so don’t read this superb 59-page novella without a box of tissues nearby.
The book opens up in a courtroom in Abilene, Kansas, where Amanda Hill, paternal aunt to Jesse and Ginny Mason’s adopted daughter, Sarah, is trying to get custody of her niece. The emotional turmoil literally boils over on the page.
Estelle does a fantastic job of developing her characters, especially Amanda Hill, her father, Edward Hill, and Jesse’s brother, Beau.
Amanda comes off as a spoiled rich girl from back East used to having everything her way. She’s sure in for a surprise when she tries to survive in the rustic old West.
The author does an incredible job of painting Edward Hill as a rich S.O.B you love to hate. He is a successful businessman and owner of the thriving Lancaster Tribune in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Is he looking for an emotional outlet for his lonely daughter or does he see in Sarah an heir to take over his business one day?
Finally, Beau Mason is a sweet gentle giant that quietly affects a key player in this amazing drama.
The Jesse Series, a romance western, culminates beautifully in Jesse’s Heartbreak, but to really enjoy the trilogy, start with book 1, Jesse’s Find.
