“Fly Guys” Children Book Deals with Prejudice
Alice is a cute little girl who runs home after school on Monday to play with her best friend, a bug named Fuzz. Their favorite game is “Fly Guys in Space” where an old mop is the rocket and a cardboard box is Alice’s spacesuit.
Bobby Thandi and Emma Leverton bring young readers a colorful picture book that will make kids and their parents cheer. In an effort to engage children about the complex subject of prejudice, Thandi and Leverton have created a fun story in rhyme that delves into the roots of prejudicial behavior.
Illustrator Joe Sharpe does an amazing job of turning a 5-year-old’s fantasy of space travel into picture book reality.
More to Come
Fly Guys: Monday Madness is just the beginning. For every day of the week, Thandi and his “Fly Guy” crew will release a series of books with Alice and Fuzz. For each new day the girl and her bug will experience a new imaginative adventure with the goal of teaching kids about differences, diversity, friendship, and the stupidity of prejudice.
Feedback
Mandip Sahota, Private Secretary to Minister of State at Foreign & Commonwealth Office, UK Government had this to say about Fly Guys: Monday Madness: “I loved this book. At a time when we hear reports of prejudice on the increase, the challenge is how to promote equality. Fly Guys is a fun story with a reassuring reminder – children are not born with prejudice.” Bobby Thandi has definitely achieved something special here – a series that will help us all tackle prejudice one day at a time. Fuzz and Alice should be on every child’s bookshelf!”

Maybe this series will do something to lessen bullying.
Yes, let’s hope. We need to see more books like this in schools and book shops!

Great article! Many thanks for helping spread the word about Fly Guys!
Prejudice negatively impacts so many areas of our lives from bullying, race hate, gender discrimination, fears over immigration to even wars.
Anything we can do to help ensure children are free from prejudice, as they are when they are born, will go a long way in making the world a better place to live.
Thanks,
Bobby

I agree, Bobby. All of us need to do our part as teachers, writers, parents, etc. Here’s a link to an article I recently wrote that addresses the problem: http://www.examiner.com/article/educating-kids-on-diversity-prejudice-and-acceptance?cid=db_articles
I have been exploring for high quality articles or blog posts
on this subject. Finally I stumbled upon this web site. From what I’ve read thus far, I’m satisfied I discovered just what I needed.
I plan on coming back again.
My family thinks I’m wasting my time on the Web, except I know I am getting a daily education
by reading such fastidious content as your blog.
