Even Butterflies Will Scream
When Butterflies Scream is the chilling sequel to The Whisper Killer. In the first book we meet Jack, a demon I like, for his victims are usually criminals, pedophiles, degenerates, and sociopaths. After vacating his previous host, Jack sets up shop in the body of FBI agent Michael Rowan “helping him exterminate the world’s worst criminals.”
Jack’s mission is sidelined when seven teens are abducted in a mysterious series of kidnappings, but there’s no ransom note and no witnesses. This is coupled with Jack’s oldest enemy locating him with a warning: Something evil is leaving a trail of dead bodies with a link to one of the kidnapped teens. And whoever these killers are, they want Jack.
Rod Little continues Jack’s story in this heart-throbbing thriller in which we meet the kidnapped kids and learn why they are placed under such duress. We also follow the kidnappers and get a glimpse at their perverted motivation.
Special Agent Michael Rowan is a loner who is paired with Avery Anderson in the FBI Pittsburgh field office. The two are assigned to investigate the kidnappings that lead them to a deserted farm. The plot of When Butterflies Scream is fast paced, the scenes descriptive, and the characters are fleshed out nicely.
I loved the teen Nick, a boy gifted with powers Jack had never seen a human possess. Not surprisingly, Little has plans for Nick and Jack in book three of the Whisper Killer series. Stay tuned. If the first two books are any indication, book 3 will probably knock our socks off.
About the Author
Over the past twenty-five years, Rod Little has written horror and science fiction stories for magazines, novellas for the Wayward Pines series, and nine novels, including his own two series: Sons of Neptune and the Angry Galaxy series. In addition, his critically acclaimed horror novel, The Whisper Killer, hit the bestseller list last year with When Butterflies Scream as its sequel.
Born in Illinois, Rod later moved to Pittsburgh, PA, and worked as a translator. In 1994 he opened a sci-fi and horror-related gaming store called Starbase One, which he kept open for 11 years of fantastic fun, until 2005, when he moved to the tropics to begin writing again. Rod travels often (when time permits), and has a second home in Asia.
Michael Thal is the author of The Lip Reader, a novel about deafness and family.
Sounds like an interesting thriller.
