Top 7 Selling YA Books in 2015

According to the February 1, 2015 issue of the New York Times, the following books are best sellers. Below you’ll find the books listed from #7 to #1 with author, age level, weeks on the Best Seller List, a blurb about each, and link.

#7 The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie and Ellen Forney- Grade 6 and up- 12 weeks- Junior is a talented cartoonist growing up on the Spokane Indian Reservation. He is determined to break away from the poverty of his surroundings so enrolls in an all-white high school where the only other Indian is the school mascot. This is an inspirational story great for teens looking to lift themselves out of rough situations.

 

Unknown#6 Firefight by Brandon Sanderson- Grade 7 and up- 2 weeks- Second in the Reckoners Book series, with superhero action in a compelling and punchy read, David, just recovering from killing the immortal Steelheart, finds himself in Babylon Restored (formally known as NYC) and is drawn into a darker and more formidable battle.

 

#5 Where She Went by Gayle Forman- Grade 7 and up-32 weeks- This is the sequel to If I Stay and picks up several years after the book’s dramatic conclusion. Both novels are about rock star Adam and cellist Mia. This time, the story is in Adam’s point of view. Due to the anguish of his breakup with Mia, Adam’s newest album is a hit and Mia’s career as a cellist is stellar. The two re-unite in New York City one night with satisfying results.

Unknown#4 Paper Towns by John Green- Grade 9 and up-98 weeks- Since he can remember, 17-year-old Quentin has had the hots for next-door neighbor Margo. One night, dressed like a ninja, she appears at his window ready to right the wrongs near their Orlando, Florida community. The next day, Margo disappears, but leaves clues just for Q. Paper Towns won the Edgar Award for Best YA Mystery.

#2 If I Stay by Gayle Forman- Grade 7 and up-42 weeks- Seventeen-year-old Mia finds herself in a hospital with no memory of the auto accident that almost took her life. As she recovers from the tragedy, family and loved ones visit Mia as she slowly recalls her life and her boyfriend Adam. If I Stay was made into a major motion picture starring Chloe Moretz.

 

Unknown-2#1 The Fault of Our Stars by John Green- Grade 7 and up-112 weeks- Sixteen-year-old Hazel has pushed people away ever since she was diagnosed with terminal thyroid cancer. Reluctantly, she joins a support group where she meets Gus, whose leg was amputated due to a malignant bone tumor. Together, they face the challenge of building a relationship under the shadow of terminal cancer. The Fault of Our Stars is now a major motion picture.
