Support the Blue: Respect our police

UnknownRespect for the law begins at home and its roots lay in the minds of our children. From an early age children need to feel a sense of self-worth and positive self-esteem. From this evolves respect. Getting kids involved in a good cause is one way to achieve this goal.

Support the Blue Now (STBN) is a grassroots organization to help restore respect to our nation’s police officers. The idea for the organization took root on The Greta Van Susteren Show on Fox News. In October 2015 Van Susteren made an urgent request for Americans to stand up and show their support for police officers.

Bryan Nooner heard the call. The Support the Blue Ribbon was an epiphany that created STBN, a nonprofit organization. Nooner says, “All the public needs to do is purchase a support ribbon, a symbol of support and solidarity for our men and women in blue.”

Giving money to a good cause is fine, but actions speak louder to children than greenbacks. So, to really show you care, go to the Support the Blue Now website and order packets of their Support Ribbon decals. (Two packs cost $6.95.)

STBN founder, Bryan Nooner says, “Place the large ribbon decals on your vehicle, school book covers, and laptops. The smaller decals can go on phones, mugs, and books.” When a child sees a police officers have the youth give the officers Support Ribbons. Nooner says, “It is guaranteed to make their day.”logonewset

If you are a scout leader, coach, or other youth organizer Nooner suggests having your organization sell Support the Blue Now Ribbons. STBN will help subsidize your efforts. Nooner says, “Your youth organization keeps all the funds and will make a positive impact on your community for years to come.”

Selling Support the Blue Now Ribbons by youth programs has several benefits. First, the youth program keeps the proceeds. Also, children participating in the sale become aware of the important role police officers play in their community. From this evolves respect.

Community residents will show their support for their local police by purchasing the ribbons. Police will see the ribbons on automobiles in the community and develop a stronger sense of appreciation. In the end, selling Support the Blue ribbon decals builds a closer relationship between the community and law enforcement, and your child is part of this effort.

Over the last few years respect for police officers has deteriorated. We don’t want our children to grow up thinking it’s cool to disrespect a police officer.

STBN wants our blue team to feel community support and respect. By encouraging our youth to get involved with selling Support the Blue Ribbon decals, the organization hopes to change the negative narrative about our police force.

The men and women in blue have an extremely important role in our society. So showing solidarity with them will restore the respect they are due.
